Getting Closer

We are one full month away (March- baby due and of April) from baby #2. Like Danica we won't know the sex of the baby until it is born. It definitely adds to the excitement on the big day or night. I hate to admit it but one thing I am looking forward to as the birth of baby #2 nears is having Allie home!

When I started nights last April Allie was home with the baby and on most mornings I could go right to sleep. If I awoke at 1PM I thought I was not getting enough sleep so most days I would sleep from 8am to 2-3PM. When Allie went back to work I was still able to nap more than I do now. Danica would usually go back to sleep when I got home for a few hours. Some days I would get 4 hours of sleep.

Now I get home from work and I am lucky if she falls asleep by 10AM. If she does fall asleep she might nap between 45 minutes and 2 hours. Those 45 minute naps are a tease. Don't forget that she might get 45 minutes but I still have to fall asleep. When you've been up and without sleep for a long time it is even tougher to fall asleep because your wired. So I would be completely wiped, Danica would be napping and I could not fall asleep. When I finally did Danica would wake up 10-20 minutes later.... even more of a tease.

Then the afternoon nap, especially recently, has been difficult at best. Sometimes she falls asleep, other times she doesn't. So some days I only get an hour or so of sleep after working all night. Luckily when Allie gets home and we eat dinner I get a few hours before I go back to work. I think Danica is slowly losing the afternoon nap. In a way it is good because I won't be expecting and additional sleep after her first nap.

So as I was saying having Allie home will be great. Assuming baby #2 does not come right away I will have close to two weeks of good sleep. I can't even imagine coming home and being able to go right to sleep. It is almost like a dream come true... and with Allie home about 10 weeks any sleep that I get will be a heck of a lot more sleep than I've been getting the last 11 months.
